About Royal HaskoningDHV

Royal HaskoningDHV was founded in 1922 Johannesburg, South Africa and was formerly known as SSI Engineers and Environmental Consultants. It was one of the very first independent consulting engineering companies in Southern Africa. It was registered as Stewart Scott (Pty) Ltd and trading as Stewart Scott International (SSI), taking the name from its founding fathers who are George Stewart and Frederick Scott. George Stewart was a specialist in water cycle and municipal services projects while Frederick Scott was a transport and structural designer.

In September 2006, the DHV Group became the firm’s major shareholder. After the DHV and Royal Haskoning merger in 2012, the company changed the name to Royal HaskoningDHV to indicate unified branding of the two groups.

Currently, Royal HaskoningDHV has 6,000 staffs from permanent offices in more than 30 countries who provide services and perform professional works on projects in 150 countries worldwide.

Royal HaskoningDHV Bursaries

Royal HaskoningDHV aims to promote and develop South Africa’s engineering industry. In-line with this objective, Royal HaskoningDHV supports qualified young individuals by investing in their education through the firm’s bursary programme. This bursary programme is awarded to students who wish to pursue studies towards undergraduate degrees in the fields of Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering at accredited South African institutions.

In addition to academic qualifications, Royal HaskoningDHV bursary programme also requires the following behavioural competencies:

  • Integrity – Strict compliance with the company’s integrity code. Respect for people including clients and workers as well as consideration for the environment and society as a whole.
  • Team spirit – Working in a contributive, cooperative and inclusive manner.
  • Excellence – Continuous improvement of quality and value of work performed.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

General Qualifications:

  • South African citizenship
  • Strong academic potential with a minimum aggregate rating of 65%
  • Applicants who wish to continue higher education in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven financial need
  • Applicants from previously disadvantaged background who are females will be given preference. This is to encourage diversity in the engineering industry.

Grade 12 Scholars additional eligibility:

  • Subjects must include Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Minimum symbol of 5 for both Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Acceptance and registration at an accredited South African University

University Students (1st, 2nd and 3rd Year) additional eligibility:

  • Completion of National Senior Certificate or Equivalent
  • Full-time students at an accredited South African University
