About Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust
IAHET or the Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust was established in September 2005 in honour of the late Imam Haron’s idea of marginalized groups and individuals empowerment through education. The main goal of the IAHET is to help these people by granting financial assistance for early childhood development, bursary programme and mathematics and science tuition. Early childhood development provides quality nutrition as well as skills development to children.
The bursary programme is given to deserving individuals who are studying or wish to pursue their tertiary education. Mathematics and Science tuition supports matric students at Steenberg, Joe Slovo and Spine Road High Schools to advance their academic skills.
Since the programme was launched in 2006, the IAHET has allocated bursaries totaling over R2.7 million to 385 students.
Imam Abdullah Haron Education Trust (IAHET) Bursaries
In line with its aim, IAHET awards financial support to qualified students who are enrolled for undergraduate programmes at public tertiary institutions accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Bursaries are funded by donation from companies and individuals. The bursary programme is administered by the Hospital Welfare and Muslim Educational Movement. Because of this, IAHET bursary only offers partial bursaries that cover payments for books, transport and some living expenses.
This year, 30 bursaries will be awarded worth R10 000 each to successful applicants.
The funds for the bursary will be given in two installments which depends on the submitted academic results of the bursary holder. The bursary holders should agree to the terms and conditions of the IAHET bursary programme.
