About Exxaro
Exxaro is a ten-year old South African diversified resources company that is black-empowered with current business interests in South Africa, Europe and United States of America. Exxaro has several coal mining operations, FerroAlloys plant as well as other resource interests such as titanium dioxide, iron ore, renewable energy and base metals.
Exxaro Bursaries
To ensure a constant flow of young talent into the company, Exxaro offers bursaries to potential applicants with exceptional skills. Successful applicants will be required to work for Exxaro after graduation for a period equivalent to the bursary duration. Bursary holders will also be provided with administrative support, mentoring and practical work. Top performing bursary holders are also awarded at a prestigious event attended by executive management and coordinators.
Exxaro bursary covers registration fees, tuition fees, book fees, meal allowance, residence fees and cash allowance for miscellaneous expenses such as a laptop or calculator.
The following BSc Engineering fields of study are accepted for the Exxaro bursary:
- Civil
- Chemical
- Electrical
- Industrial
- Mechanical
- Metallurgy
- Mining Engineering
- Mining Surveying (B Tech MRM)
- Mining Technician (B Tech)
- Geology (Hons compulsory)
Bursaries for each field aren’t always awarded each year and are determined according to the company’s business need. Bursaries will only be awarded in fields of study listed above.
Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
- Minimum of level 5 for English First Language or a level 5 for English Second Language in Grade 11 or Grade 12.
- Minimum of level 6 for Mathematics and a level 6 for Physical Science in Grade 11 or Grade 12.
- Full time students at an accredited South African university
- South African citizenship
- Residents of Limpopo and Mpumalanga will be given preference
For a B Tech course:
- Minimum of level 5 for Mathematics, Science and English.
How to Apply and Application Details
Annual selection process will start in February and will end in March. Visit the Exxaro website for the availability of application form.
Only short-listed applicants will be contacted to proceed to the next phase of the selection process. A National Benchmark Test (NBT) and psychometric assessments will be performed to measure competency in academic literacy, quantitative literacy and Mathematics.
Selected applicants will be invited for an interview at Exxaro Corporate Centre in Pretoria. After the interview, the result will be released within three weeks for successful applicants. The last phase will involve completion of medical examination before the bursary offer letter is given.
